Why check Puerto Rico and DC separately?
Because “all 50 states” — a phrase many provider pages use — covers neither. Washington DC is a federal district and Puerto Rico a territory, each with its own filing office and its own rules. An entity registered there needs an agent of record there, whatever the rest of the portfolio looks like.

What do the jurisdictions themselves require?
Yes. Puerto Rico calls it the agente residente — resident agent. Every corporation must state a designated office (oficina designada) on the island with a resident agent in charge of it, and an LLC’s certificate of organization names the resident agent in charge of its main office. After a change of resident agent, the designated office address and the agent’s business address must be identical, and the new agent’s written consent must be part of the certificate or attached to it.

Every domestic and foreign filing entity registered in the District — LLCs, corporations, limited partnerships, LLPs, cooperative associations, statutory trusts, even trade names — must appoint and maintain a registered agent whose address is a physical street address inside the District of Columbia. DLCP rejects PO boxes, third-party mailboxes such as UPS or FedEx, and any address outside DC. An entity’s status may be revoked if it goes more than 60 days without an agent.
