Missed a state filing? What happens next, state by state.

Each jurisdiction has its own word for an LLC that has fallen behind on its recurring filing, and its own way back. Of the 52 jurisdictions below, 28 set no deadline to get back and 20 set a fixed window, and 4 are not confirmed yet. 9 require a clearance from the state tax agency, and 3 more require one in some cases.

What does this table show?

For each jurisdiction: the status its own statute or filing office uses, the filing that brings an LLC back, how long the LLC has to file it, and whether a tax clearance has to come with it. Each row links to a page with the triggers, the notice before it happens, the name rules, what changes for corporations and the statutes, with sources.

44 of 52 records are confirmed on every core answer against primary sources: the statute and the filing office’s own pages. 8 are marked draft, and any answer not yet confirmed reads “Not confirmed” here and says which office to check with on its page.

Checked September 2026. No fees or amounts are shown: state fees are confirmed with you before anything is filed.
