Entity Filings & Elections

Formation documents for any entity type, plus the tax elections that follow. The S election itself is federal — Form 2553, filed with the IRS. Some states then want a separate election of their own: New York, for example, requires Form CT-6 and its approval before you can file as a New York S corporation. Many states recognise the federal election automatically and have no form at all. We check yours.

“Doing Business As” (DBA)

Needed only when you trade under a name other than your legal one. Where it is filed depends on the state and entity type — in New York, corporations and LLCs file with the Department of State, sole proprietors and partnerships with the county clerk.

Not every state has both: five levy no general sales tax, and states with no personal income tax have no withholding account to open, though every state runs unemployment insurance.
