Any individual, corporation or LLC may act as registered agent for a Mississippi company provided the agent has a physical address in Mississippi. Mississippi splits agents in two: commercial registered agents, who file a listing statement and appear on the Secretary of State’s published list, and noncommercial agents, whose permission you must get before naming them.
Under § 79-35-14 the agent’s statutory duty is to forward any process, notice or demand served on it to the entity at the address the entity most recently supplied, and to keep that contact information current — which means a working Mississippi address someone actually attends, not a drop box.

A person named as registered agent without consenting is not your agent and has no duty to forward service of process, so papers can be served with nobody obliged to pass them on. Separately, failure to file the annual report may result in administrative dissolution of the organization.
