The rule
Governing statute: Idaho Code §§ 30-21-401 et seq. (Idaho Uniform Business Organizations Code, registered agents), with § 30-21-407 (statement of change by the entity), § 30-21-213 (annual report) and §§ 30-21-601 to 30-21-603 (administrative dissolution and reinstatement)
The registered agent must have a physical street address in Idaho; the Secretary of State does not accept a PO box as the registered office address. The agent may be an individual with a physical Idaho address or a business entity authorized to do business in Idaho, but an assumed business name (ABN) cannot serve as a registered agent.
The agent is the point of contact for service of process at that Idaho address, so someone must be reachable there during normal business hours to accept lawsuits and state notices.

Under Idaho Code § 30-21-601 the Secretary of State may begin administrative dissolution if an entity has no registered agent in the state for sixty days or misses its annual report; the state serves notice and dissolves the entity if the grounds are not cured within sixty days after that notice.
